Here at Serco we’re looking for a Senior Local Taxation Officer to join our Revenues Team, with main focus being on Business Rates; working in partnership with Peterborough City Council.
This is a great opportunity for either an experienced Senior Local Taxation Officer or someone who has experience within a similar billings/collections environment. As Senior Local Taxation Officer, you’ll be responsible for processing complex amendments to accounts, which will include changes of occupation, relief, discount and exemption entitlement. You’ll thoroughly investigate accounts under dispute and support with complaints/appeals/Councillor and MP enquiries. Working in collaboration with the Local Taxation Manager you’ll also provide assistance to business customers struggling with payment of their accounts and support with applications for Liability Orders in the Magistrates Court, deputising for the Court Officer in their absence. On a day to day basis, you will be required to provide technical advice and support, coaching and mentoring to your colleagues.
What you’ll need to do the role;
We’re keen to hear from those who have knowledge and understanding of Business Rates legislation; however as a minimum you’ll be able to demonstrable experience within a busy billing/collection/accounts environment as well as a good level of education, GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent). You will have an understanding of the legislative frameworks and key issues relating to the billing and recovery of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rating incomes.
You should be passionate and enthusiastic about working in this environment and have a patient and supportive approach to guiding and advising others. We're looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who is flexible and adaptable to change. Having a keen eye for detail you'll be analytical in your approach to problem solving to make effective decisions.
