Shropshire Council
Job id 4600

Salary £28,598 - £31,022 Grade 7 SCP 12-17

Closing Date 30th of November 2025

Shropshire Council is a unitary authority which serves the rural county of Shropshire. One of the most important things about working here is the knowledge that you’re working to help others and the real sense of achievement and purpose that brings. The people of Shropshire are rightly proud of their county’s assets, its natural beauty, its history, its diverse economy, its vibrant culture.

The Revenues and Benefits Service provides vital statutory services to the Council in the assessment and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates and assessment and payment of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.  These are challenging times in Revenues and Benefits due to

  • increased pressure to maintain our high collection rates
  • the continued requirement to process benefit applications accurately and quickly
  • the application of different charging polices
  • changing customer expectations
  • Welfare reform changes and the introduction of Universal Credit.

In order to meet these challenges we are looking to appoint a Visiting Officer for central Shropshire to help maintain an accurate and up to date taxbase to enable the accurate billing of Council Tax and Business Rates, and also visit residents to confirm entitlement to discount, exemptions and benefit entitlement.
