Job Title: Rating Compliance & Audit Manager

 

We’re looking for a Compliance & Audit Manager (Rating specialist) to join the Accurates team of Colliers in our London offices based in Wigmore Street.

We are a successful team of experienced business rates practitioners, many of who are IRRV qualified, providing advice to UK and multi-national corporate clients. Excellent client service and a proactive approach is key to our success and client retention. We support team members in developing and growing their understanding and career development.

 

The main duties will include:

Checking rate demands both historic and current to ensure bills have been calculated correctly and appropriate reliefs/exemptions have been correctly awarded.

 

Monitoring changes to the rating list, case law and legislation to ensure our clients are charged correctly.

 

Liaise with Billing Authorities, the Valuation Office Agency and other agencies on behalf of clients.

 

Work as a client contact, providing advice, support, reports and attending client meetings.

 

Work closely with our surveyors and rate account management team to ensure the best interests of clients are met.

 

Undertake site inspections to ascertain potential for business rates reductions.

 

Identify opportunities for new business. 

 

 

Person Specification

You’ll have gained specialist knowledge in Business Rates, working as a rating or revenues officer within a Billing Authority. You’ll have experience of establishing rateable occupation and liability,  knowledge of the myriad of exemptions and reliefs available, as well as an understanding of transition, changes to rating lists including splits and mergers and the impact of certificates. You will be up to date with legislation, case law and developments in rating. IRRV qualification in Local Taxation is preferred but not essential.

You’ll have good analytical skills and be expected to provide first class rating advice and service to clients ensuring they correctly manage their rate costs. You’ll be highly motivated and able to deliver the day to day management of individual client portfolios and value for clients. You’ll be proficient in developing effective client relationships, be able to deliver clear client reporting and provide a clear analysis of project progression.
