Council Tax (Revenues) Caseworker (Empty Property)

Based at Sale Waterside although considerable time will be spent out around the Borough. 

Salary range –     £29,777 - £31,364 (pro rata if part time)

Working Pattern –     Full Time or reduced hours/part time

Working hours –        18 to 36.25 hours

About the Role
Following recent changes in the Council’s Policies on empty properties and the increase in the number of larger developments in the Borough, we are looking to recruit an experienced Council Tax Officer to join the additional Council Tax (Revenues) Caseworker on the Council Tax Team. The post will specifically have responsibility for ensuring the Council’s policy on charging the empty home premium is successful in reducing the number of empty properties, increasing income and also maintaining accurate records on new developments to ensure they are assessed for Council Tax promptly. A revenues background with a proven track record of enforcing debt is therefore essential, ideally specialising in Council Tax.  

The Caseworker role has been specifically introduced to be responsible for liaising with owners and developers at an early stage to ensure the Council’s tax base is maximised by prompt assessment of new property and correct application of the empty property premium. This will include close monitoring of property with significant time spent around the Borough. The post holder will also be expected to prepare and issue completion notices and fully prepare cases for Tribunal.

About you
The successful candidate will be required to deliver a first class, professional, high quality front line service to Trafford residents as well as to internally to the Council, its partners and stakeholders. You will therefore have a sound working knowledge in billing, collection and recovery procedures.

You should have a minimum of 2 years’ Council Tax or Business Rates experience and hold the IRRV qualification or be prepared to commit to attain within 12 months.
