About you:

You are organised, accurate and confident working in a busy, finance-based environment. You have experience of handling payments and resolving customer account issues, and you understand the importance of security and confidentiality when managing financial and personal data. You communicate clearly and calmly with customers and colleagues, even in challenging situations. You are comfortable using financial systems and spreadsheets, work well under pressure and meet deadlines reliably. You hold GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

 

About the role:

You will help maintain the Council’s income collection service for Council Tax and Business Rates, ensuring payments are received, recorded and processed correctly. You will set up and monitor direct debits, prepare refunds, trace missing payments and resolve account anomalies. You will contact customers to agree payment arrangements and provide advice on payment options. The role involves close attention to detail, teamwork and a commitment to excellent customer service. Appointment is subject to standard pre-employment checks, including a Standard DBS check.

You’ll be joining a newly structured Local Taxation team at an exciting time of change. The service is being modernised to strengthen resilience, improve digital systems and provide an even better experience for residents and businesses across Exeter. As part of this team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the Council’s income is collected and recorded accurately.
