Role Purpose

The Pulse RPA Engineer is responsible for the design, build, deployment and maintenance of robotic process automation solutions using the Pulse RPA® platform. The role focuses on delivering robust, auditable and scalable automations for public sector clients, supporting business-critical processes across revenues, benefits, housing, debt and related services.

The engineer will work closely with business analysts, implementation consultants and client stakeholders to translate operational requirements into reliable automated processes, ensuring solutions meet technical standards, security controls and data protection obligations.

Key Responsibilities

The role involves designing and building RPA workflows using Pulse RPA®, including attending requirements sessions and reviewing process maps to ensure automations reflect real-world operational practice rather than idealised processes.

You will develop, test and deploy robots in line with agreed delivery plans, ensuring appropriate exception handling, logging and auditability are built into each solution. Responsibility includes maintaining existing automations, diagnosing failures, resolving defects and implementing enhancements as client processes evolve.

The role also covers environment management activities such as version control, release coordination, and supporting promotions between development, test and live environments. You will contribute to technical documentation, operational runbooks and client-facing handover materials as required.

You will be expected to work responsibly with live and sensitive data, ensuring all automations comply with data protection legislation, client security requirements and internal governance standards. Where automations integrate with third-party systems or databases, you will ensure integrations are stable, secure and well understood.

Skills and Experience

Applicants should have demonstrable experience delivering robotic process automation solutions in a production environment, ideally within public sector or highly regulated contexts.

Strong logical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to break down complex, rules-based processes into executable automation flows. Experience working with structured and semi-structured data, including CSV files, databases and APIs, is expected.

A solid understanding of Windows environments, service accounts and role-based access is required. Experience with SQL, scripting or .NET-based integrations is desirable, as is familiarity with cloud platforms and Microsoft-based ecosystems.

You must be comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders, explaining automation behaviour clearly and managing expectations around what RPA can and cannot sensibly achieve.

Pulse RPA® Knowledge

Experience with the Pulse RPA® platform is strongly preferred. Where candidates have experience with other RPA tools, they must demonstrate an ability to adapt quickly to Pulse’s runtime, orchestration and audit model.

Understanding of unattended automation, scheduling, resilience, error handling and throughput optimisation is essential for success in the role.

Governance, Security and Compliance

The role requires awareness of GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and general public sector data handling standards. You will follow internal change control, incident management and access management processes and support audit activities when required.

You are expected to design automations that are transparent, explainable and defensible, particularly where outputs influence operational or financial decisions.

Working Style

This role suits someone who is delivery-focused, detail-oriented and comfortable working with imperfect real-world processes. You should be able to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider delivery team.

Clear written and verbal communication is important, as is a pragmatic approach to balancing technical purity with operational reality.

Desirable Experience

Experience working with local authorities, central government or regulated service environments is an advantage. Exposure to income and debt systems, housing platforms or revenues and benefits processes would be beneficial.
