About the Role
We are a Boutique Rating Practice who deal solely with Rating on behalf of an extensive Client base. We are seeking a highly experienced professional to support our team with complex Business Rates and Council Tax liability matters. The role will focus on analysing Client liability positions to respond to the Local Authority and ensure the correct liability and position is maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and advise on complex Business Rates and Council Tax liability cases.
- Analyse lease agreements, tenure structures and occupation to determine correct liability.
- Consider relevant legislation, case law and local authority practices.
- Assess liability including ownership, occupation, exemptions and reliefs.
- Provide support with billing queries, backdating issues and account reconciliation.
- Provide clear, well-reasoned written advice to support client reporting.
- Liaise, where required, with local authorities to clarify liability positions.
- Liaise with Solicitors and Counsel when necessary to support a Client’s needs.
About You
- Member of the IRRV and/or RICS.
- Significant experience within a local authority revenues team, private practice, or similar environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of Business Rates and Council Tax legislation and practice.
- Detailed understanding of leases, licences, and wider property tenure arrangements.
- Ability to interpret complex documentation and form clear conclusions on liability.
- Comfortable working independently in a consultancy capacity.
- Strong written and analytical skills.
Ideal Candidate
This position would suit a former or retired Revenues Officer or Chartered Surveyor with extensive experience in liability matters, looking to apply their expertise on a flexible, part-time basis.
