We are recruiting a commercially minded person to join us as a Rating Surveyor with a view to director succession for the right candidate subject to performance and commitment. Marston Associates is a small, highly reputable RICS regulated rating and lease consultancy with a national client base and a reputation that far exceeds its size. Key Responsibilities
- Review and manage files via the CCA process and meeting regulatory and internal deadlines.
- Assess the merits, risks and likely outcomes of potential rating cases.
- Produce clear, evidence‑led reports and maintain accurate case records.
- Communicate timely, responsively and confidently with clients, the VOA and other professionals.
Who We’re Looking For
- Your core expertise should be in Business Rates. Experience in rent reviews and lease renewals could be useful.
- You should have practical experience of non‑domestic rating, a sound understanding of rating valuation principles, and familiarity with the VOA Check, Challenge and Appeal process.
- IRRV, RICS or other relevant professional qualifications are desirable, although applications from experienced rating practitioners are welcomed.
- You will thrive on autonomy, commercial thinking and relationship building, and be motivated by taking full responsibility for your work and its outcomes.

- Solid technical grounding; RICS or IRRV membership (or equivalent) preferred

- Full UK driving licence and vehicle
- Competent computer user able to use Microsoft applications, comparable search tools (e.g. CoStar) and specialist rating software such as RatesData
- Drive, independence and the desire to build something of your own
Remuneration & Benefits
- Salary: £40,000–£65,000pa depending on experience plus bonuses
