You will manage the billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax, ensuring compliance with regulations and providing support to our community's most vulnerable members.

Key responsibilities

· Updating the Council’s Council Tax billing system to ensure that bills issued are correct and in accordance with the appropriate regulations, legislation, and guidance.

  • Offer advice and guidance to customers on all aspects of Council Tax, including discounts and exemptions.

· Undertake all necessary duties for the efficient billing, collection, and recovery of the Council Tax.

· Liaising with stakeholders, including enforcement agencies, employers for attachments and other Council departments where required.

· Understand and meet the needs of our customers and identify and signpost customers in need of debt management or other advice.

· Communicating with customers via phone to discuss and negotiate payment options.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in administering Council Tax accounts is preferred
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to change in a busy and demanding environment
  • Proven Customer Service experience
  • Proven experience in debt negotiation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Experience of using NEC Northgate System
  • Strong communication skills across various channels.
  • Capable of meeting challenging deadlines.
  • Ability to undertake repetitive and high-volume tasks whilst maintaining attention to detail and accuracy

 

Please note, should be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks a basic DBS will be actioned for you and BPSS checks including three-year worth of references.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
