About the role

We're looking for a dedicated Benefits Officer to join our team. In this vital role, you'll be on the front line, helping residents in our community navigate the benefits system and access the financial support they need.

This isn't just about processing forms—it's about compassion, accuracy, and problem-solving. You'll be using your skills to guide people through challenging times, ensuring they receive the correct support and helping to build a stronger, fairer community for everyone.

What you'll do:

  • Process Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims accurately and on time.
  • Guide residents through the application process and provide clear, empathetic advice on their entitlements.
  • Investigate and verify information to ensure all claims are correct and compliant with regulations.
  • Collaborate with other teams and external agencies to resolve complex cases and provide comprehensive support.
  • Maintain accurate records and a high standard of work in a fast-paced environment.

About you

Alongside your experience of processing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction claims and Discretionary Housing Payment applications and knowledge in this area, ideally you will have experience of working with Civica OpenRevenues and Workflow systems, but this is not essential as training can be provided.

You’ll also need -

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and professional approach.
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to work accurately with complex information.
  • A natural problem-solver who can manage a varied workload and prioritize effectively.
  • A commitment to helping people and a positive, can-do attitude.

Benefits

  • 35 days annual leave (including 8 Bank Holidays and 3 extra days normally applied at Christmas)
  • Generous Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Hybrid working up to 60%
  • Flexi time scheme
  • Annual leave purchase scheme
  • Subsidised parking
  • Structured Induction Program
  • Learning and Development opportunities including Future Leaders programmes
  • Payment of a professional subscription for approved professionals
  • Family Friendly Policies
  • Independent Support for your health & wellbeing
  • Generous compassionate leave
  • Extra Benefits including Retail Discounts, Cycle to Work scheme and more
