About you:

You have strong communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to make decisions and handle complex cases professionally. You are well organised, accurate and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining fairness and empathy. You are experienced in using Microsoft Office 365 and have a working knowledge of Council Tax legislation and procedures. You hold GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above and a Level 3 qualification such as IRRV Technician or equivalent.

 

About the role:

You will provide a customer-focused Council Tax service, ensuring that billing, collection and recovery processes are carried out accurately and in line with legislation. You will make liability decisions, process refunds, manage payment arrangements, and help ensure income is maximised through effective recovery. The role also involves handling customer enquiries across multiple channels and supporting continuous service improvement. Appointment is subject to standard pre-employment checks, including a Basic DBS check.

You’ll be joining a newly structured Local Taxation team at an exciting time of change. The service is being modernised to strengthen resilience, improve digital systems and provide an even better experience for residents and businesses across Exeter. You’ll work alongside colleagues who value teamwork, accuracy and good communication to deliver a fair and responsive Council Tax service.
