About you:
You will be an experienced Council Tax practitioner with a strong track record of working with complex accounts and legislation. You have a solid understanding of the Local Government Finance Act 1992 and associated regulations, and you are confident in interpreting new legislation, guidance and case law. You are organised, accurate and able to manage a high volume of detailed work while meeting deadlines. You will be comfortable supervising others, supporting colleagues and helping to maintain consistent working practices across the team. You communicate clearly and calmly, using tact and diplomacy to manage difficult situations and support customers, including those who may be vulnerable. You can use Office 365 effectively, including Teams, and you have GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent). You hold an IRRV Level 5 Diploma or equivalent qualification, or you can demonstrate significant relevant experience in local taxation. Experience of using Capita Revenues and Benefits is desirable.
About the role:
You will help deliver a responsive and accurate Council Tax service, supervising a small team and supporting colleagues with complex or sensitive cases. You will oversee key payment and financial processes including daily cash balancing, refunds, suspense accounts, weekly AUDDIS transmissions and Bacs payment runs. You will ensure that payments and direct debit instructions are submitted, reconciled and monitored accurately, resolving exceptions promptly and in line with procedures. The role includes providing specialist advice, supporting system testing, contributing to reports and statistics, and helping embed changes in legislation, policy and working practices. You will work closely with colleagues across the service to maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance and customer service.
