About you:

You are an experienced and confident communicator who can handle complex situations with tact and professionalism. You manage competing deadlines and priorities effectively, using sound judgement to balance accuracy with urgency. You understand the importance of providing a fair, consistent and customer-focused service. You are confident using Office 365 applications and revenues systems such as Capita One. You hold GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above, a Level 3 qualification such as IRRV Technician or equivalent, and a full driving licence with access to a car.

 

About the role:

You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of Exeter’s business rates and council tax property base. You will issue bills, review reliefs and exemptions, inspect properties, and liaise with the Valuation Office Agency to confirm valuations. You will also support recovery activity and assist with system testing when required. This role combines desk-based and site inspection work and helps ensure that income due to the Council is billed, collected and recovered correctly. Appointment is subject to standard pre-employment checks, including a Basic DBS check.

 

About the team:

You’ll be joining a newly structured Local Taxation team at an exciting time of change. The service is being modernised to strengthen resilience, improve digital systems and provide an even better experience for residents and businesses across Exeter. Within this team, your inspection work will directly support accurate billing and ensure that the Council’s property records are up to date and compliant.
