Job description

Make a Real Difference to Your Community

Do you enjoy problem‑solving, working with numbers, and helping people find solutions? If so, this could be the role for you. Join us and help make a positive impact every day.

We’re looking for a proactive and customer‑focused Revenues Officer to join our friendly Revenues and Benefits team. You’ll play a vital role in the administration and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates, helping to fund the essential services that support our local community.

What You’ll Be Doing

No two days are the same in this varied and rewarding role. You’ll be:

  • Managing Council Tax and Business Rates accounts, including setting up new accounts, issuing bills, and processing amendments
  • Providing clear, professional advice to residents and businesses by phone, email, and in person
  • Taking a fair but firm approach to debt recovery, including negotiating repayment plans and progressing enforcement action where necessary
  • Working closely with internal teams and external partners such as enforcement agents
  • Applying legislation, policies, and procedures consistently to ensure compliance and excellent customer outcomes
  • Maintaining accurate records and high standards of data quality

What We’re Looking For

We’re keen to hear from people who bring enthusiasm, accuracy, and a positive approach to customer service. You’ll ideally have:

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage a busy workload
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Confidence in handling sensitive and sometimes challenging conversations
  • Good IT skills (experience with Civica or similar systems is desirable)
  • Experience in local taxation, revenues, or a similar financial/customer service environment

Experience in interpreting legislation is an advantage, but we also value potential and a willingness to learn.

What we can offer you

You’ll be supported by a welcoming team and a council that values flexibility, wellbeing, and development. Our benefits include:

  • A generous annual leave entitlement of 29 days (rising to 33 days after 5 years’ service), plus 8 bank holidays
  • Flexible, family friendly and hybrid working policies available
  • Access to training, learning and continuous professional development
  • Free workplace parking across the Borough
  • Option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) plus access to a salary sacrifice scheme for added voluntary pension contributions
  • Discounted leisure membership through the Fit for Work scheme
  • Access to the VIVUP employee benefits discount and salary sacrifice scheme
