Why Us?

It’s time to join West Lancs as we embark on delivering our new and ambitious Vision and Priorities. With a focus on environmental sustainability, generating economic prosperity, building inclusive & healthy communities and financial resilience, we are looking for exceptional candidates to help shape our future. You will be joining an organisation that puts its customers first, takes responsibility and works together with a can-do attitude, all while challenging the status quo to deliver exceptional outcomes for our communities.

Your Role!

We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Revenues and Benefits Officer to join our Revenues and Benefits team.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will be responsible for administering Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support accounts. You will ensure customer records are maintained accurately and that customers receive the correct decisions, bills, notifications and advice in line with legislation, council policies and service standards.

You will process claims, account amendments, discounts, exemptions, reliefs and payment arrangements, while using specialist Revenues, Benefits and document management systems to maintain accurate records. The role also involves investigating and verifying information, providing advice to customers and working closely with colleagues and partner organisations to resolve enquiries and improve customer outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, delivering high-quality customer service and working in a busy environment where accuracy, organisation and attention to detail are essential.

About You!

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience).
  • Can process detailed information accurately and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
  • Has excellent organisational skills and can effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills and enjoys helping customers.
  • Can deal professionally and sensitively with challenging situations and difficult conversations.
  • Is confident using digital systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team and adopt a flexible approach to changing priorities.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality and handling sensitive personal information appropriately.
  • Has a positive attitude, is adaptable and is willing to learn new systems, legislation and ways of working.

Experience of working within a Revenues and Benefits environment would be advantageous but is not essential. We are keen to hear from candidates who can demonstrate transferable skills, a commitment to excellent customer service and a willingness to develop their knowledge and expertise.

What's in it for you?

We pride ourselves on our friendliness and being a good employer with a range of benefits and employment terms and conditions to suit you. A competitive salary and annual leave entitlement, flexible working, a generous employer pension contribution scheme, work life balance policies, and support for your personal development are just some of the benefits we offer.

If you are eager to be part of a transformative journey and make a tangible impact, West Lancashire Borough Council welcomes your application.
